Different types of brake systems have since been devised and developed for more powerful vehicles.  The simplest brake system can manually be operated with the use of a handle and a simple mechanical system which the operators of low-power machines utilize in order to apply sufficient force from the handle straight to the stationary portions of the mechanical brake system through simple linking mechanisms.  But with the advent of high-power vehicles and machineries, different types of brake systems have since been developed. 

The most widely used types of brake systems for high-power automobiles and heavy equipment are the hydraulic brake system and the air brake system.  The mechanisms involved in the hydraulic brake system makes use of the application of functional force on a particular piston located in one of the various master cylinders which are part of the entire mechanical engine as the brake pedal of these high-power machines are depressed.  This piston then forces hydraulic bbrake fluid through metal tubes straight into another particular cylinder located in each wheel.  The pressure brought about by the brake fluids, in turn, , moves two actual pistons into the functional brake shoes which are situated against the drum of eaach back wheel.

The air brake system, on the other hand, functionally utilizes compressed air found in a particular piston within the master cylinder in order to set actual block brakes on each wheel.  Automated systems have also been integrated on this particular type of brake system since damage to the tubes that carry the compressed air was a main reason behind vehicular accidents during the time where air brake systems were only controlled by train engineers and the like without depending on a functionally reliable automated system.
